WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO ADMITS HE NEARLY CALLED OUT TYSON FURY FOR A REMATCH
Wladimir Klitschko Admits He Nearly Called Out Tyson Fury For a Rematch
Former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is standing firm on his position that all Russian athletes should be banned from events - until Russia ends its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Klitschko, who is Ukrainian, had previously called for Dmitry Bivol, who is Russian, to be pulled from a scheduled fight with Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
Bivol was not removed from the fight, which took place on May 7 and shocked the world when he outboxed Canelo over twelve rounds to secure an upset unanimous decision win.
"The war is going now; they cannot participate at the next Olympic games, they cannot participate at any athletic events because this war is represented by Russia... I believe that this is going to be the message and is exactly for the answer to the question, 'What I would you say to Mr. Putin?' … Actions speak louder than words. Isolation and this isolation speaks louder than any word or any line because isolation is painful. It's going to be painful for athletes, for the economy, it's going to be painful for anyone and everybody involved with Russia," Klitschko told Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV.
During the interview, Klitschko revealed that he nearly entertained the idea of coming out of retirement for a fight with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Fury outboxed Klitschko over twelve rounds to capture the unified crown in 2015. A rematch was planned but never occurred when Fury walked away from the sport for over two years to focus on his mental health and substance abuse issues.
Klitschko, who retired in 2017, put his in-ring ambitions to the side when Russia invaded Ukraine.
"I was thinking I should just text Tyson Fury and tweet, 'Last dance?' He wants to retire. We were supposed to have this rematch, and that's what I was thinking about it. You know, I didn't do it because my mind was in a totally different world," Klitschko said.
"I had a dream to become the oldest heavyweight champion of the world … But we were talking about something that was happening before, and now there's a big question mark."

PJ TUCKER TO UNDERGO MRI ON LEFT KNEE
PJ Tucker to undergo MRI on left knee
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
The Miami Heat suffered a big blow in their quest to return to the NBA Finals as veteran PJ Tucker is set to undergo MRI and possibly miss several games against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
As per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the MRI determines Tucker's left knee injury level.
This can be a series shifter as Boston even the series at 1-1 after the return of Marcus Smart and Al Horford.
It is also uncanny to see a defense-oriented Miami blown out by 25-points, allowing its opponent well over the century mark (127-102).
With Tucker sidelined, tactician Erik Spoelstra will have to put a new game plan for Miami to stop Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

GAME 2 NEXT! THE WARRIORS TAKE GAME 1 ON A BLOWOUT DUB
The warriors take Game 1 on a blowout dub.
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
The Golden State Warriors took the early lead in the Western Conference Finals after a 112-87 win in Game 1.
With only four markers, Stephen Curry led all scorers with 21 points, making up for his poor first-half start. He shot 7 of 16 from the field, including four three-pointers.
Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole then followed with 19 points apiece. Seven Warriors players reached double-digit scoring as well.
On the other hand, Luka Doncic was limited to 20 points and a -30 in the +/- differentials.
Spencer Dinwiddie tried to will the Mavs back with his 17-point effort, but the Warriors kept them far from the bay.
Game 2 will be on Saturday at 9 a.m.

ROMERO:ONE ROUND, TANK'S GONNA GET KNOCKED OUT FROM FIRST PUNCH THAT HITS HIM
Romero: One Round, Tank's Gonna Get Knocked Out From First Punch That Hits Him
Rolando Romero is sticking to his word of making it a quick night in his biggest fight to date.
A bitter grudge match lies ahead for Las Vegas’ Romero, the mandatory challenger to secondary WBA lightweight titlist Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. The two will finally meet atop a May 28 Showtime Pay-Per-View event from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight has been roughly four years in the making, though Romero plans to make up for lost time once they are in the ring.
“One round,” Romero bluntly stated during an open media workout Tuesday afternoon at Mayweather Boxing Gym, repeating a prior prediction of knocking out Davis in the first round. “If I say I’mma do it, I’mma do it.
“He’s gonna knocked out from the first punch that hits him.”
When pressed by Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) host Ray Flores to qualify the prediction, Romero (14-0, 12KOs) suggested that Baltimore’s Davis (26-0, 24KOs) lacks the defensive prowess to avoid the inevitable.
“Tell me a fight he don’t get punched on, by smaller dudes who don’t have no power, no nothing,” insisted Romero. “Tell me a fight. I’m way more accurate than everyone else he’s ever fought. I’m way more explosive, way stronger, way bigger than everyone else. It’s just common sense.”
Romero had served as the mandatory challenger to Davis' version of the lightweight title since August 2020, when he claimed the now-defunct interim WBA lightweight belt in a twelve-round decision over Jackson Ramirez. Two fights have followed for Romero, involving opponents who badly missed weight. Romero scored a seventh-round stoppage of Avery Sparrow, replacing an over-the-limit Justin Pauldo last January in Uncasville, Connecticut.
In his most recent start, Romero faced former title challenger Anthony Yigit who missed weight by five pounds ahead of their July 17 Showtime-televised bout in San Antonio. Romero went through with the fight, scoring three knockdowns en route to a seventh-round knockout before being named the mandatory challenger for Davis.
The fight between the unbeaten lightweights was due last December 5 in Los Angeles. Romero was pulled from the show roughly five weeks out due to serving as the target of a sexual assault investigation, having professed his innocence and eventually clearing his name. But only after he was replaced by Isaac Cruz, whom Davis outpointed over twelve rounds.
Romero wasn't impressed with Davis that night or any other in his career.
“He got his ass beat and showed that he’s extremely vulnerable,” Romero claimed in summarizing Davis’ 16-fight knockout streak coming to a close. “He’s scared of people that can crack.”
Romero has stopped eight of his last nine opponents and has five career first-round knockouts.

WARRIORS WIN in GAME 1 (CURRY, DONCIC FACEOFF IN WEST FINALS)
Curry, Doncic faceoff in West Finals
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
Stephen Curry and the Golden Warriors have their next opponent named after Luka Doncic, and the Dallas Mavericks eliminated the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in a dominating Game 7 victory.
It is a massive accomplishment for Dallas as it's its first time to reach the Western Conference Finals since 2011; nothing should be celebrated yet.
Luka prevailed over Chris Paul and Devin Booker. Now he's going to face the Splash Brothers, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Doncic has been a walking bucket in the postseason but will his magic be enough to upset Curry and the Warriors? Because Golden State is looking like the championship team we saw a few years back.
This series, however, can be determined on this, can the Warriors hold off Luka's offensive outburst? While on the other side, can the Mavs cool off not just Curry but Thompson and Jordan Poole?
Looking at the matchups, the Bay Area is currently the favored team, but we still have to see that Doncic keeps on shocking the league and the world in the 2021-22 NBA Playoffs.

TYSON FURY STICKS TO DECISION ON BOXING RETIREMENT
Tyson Fury sticks to decision on boxing retirement.
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
At only 33 years old, Tyson Fury remained firm on his decision to retire from the sport of boxing.
The World Boxing Council Heavyweight Champion said he would be communicating with the organization regarding his future plans.
Fury has 33 fights, where he won in 32 of them. The last one was against Dillian Whyte via knockout in front of a mammoth crowd at Wembley Stadium.
"I am very happy and contented to be retired. It's been a long time coming, and I am so much enjoying my retirement," the Gypsy King said.
While he certainly cemented himself as one of the greatest heavyweights ever, can Fury's reason for retirement is because no one right now can match him?
Although the Anthony Joshua-Fury did not happen, it can be concluded that Joshua was not on the latter's level after he lost his belts.
"It is our dream to see fighters retire with such greatness. Undefeated champion, financially protected with a loving family and a great future outside the ring.
"I am very happy and satisfied if this is his final decision and will fully support him and will be close to him for the rest of his life."

NBA NAMES EAST AND WEST CONFERENCE FINALS MVPS AFTER BIRD AND MAGIC
NBA names East and West Conference Finals MVPs after Bird and Magic.
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
Respect is earned not given. And surely they paved the way to the stardom of the Association. With this, the NBA formally announced that they will name the Eastern and Western Conference Finals MVPs after the great Larry Bird and Earvin "Magic" Johnson.
And yes, this is the first time that the league will award Conference Finals MVP. Who do you think will be the recipients?
Along with this are the redesigns of other NBA trophies like the Conference championship, Larry O'Brien Trophy and the Bill Russell Finals MVP.
The league also released the whole process of redesigning its official social media accounts. This is part of the diamond season celebration.

IM BACK!!! JAKE PAUL OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES THEIR RETURN TO BOXING
Jake Paul officially announces their return to boxing.
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
August 13th. Mark the date because Jake Paul will again put on the gloves and fight.
The date is set, but his opponent has yet to be revealed. Speculations are now clouding the internet, and the frontrunner is Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
His older brother Logan fought Mayweather, which went to the distance, and both athletes earned enormous amounts of money.
Will Jake be the next, and if so, can he give Money Mayweather his first boxing defeat?
Or will it be McGregor who will cross sports for the second time?
Who would you like to see Paul fights next?

ROCKY FIELDING STOPS TIMO LAINE IN THREE ROUNDS IN LIVERPOOL
ROCKY FIELDING STOPS TIMO LAINE IN THREE ROUNDS IN LIVERPOOL
Rocky Fielding, the former WBA "regular" super middleweight champion, showed he still has ambition in the sport as he stopped Timo Laine, of Finland, in the third round of Probellum’s show in Liverpool.
It was a straightforward night's work for Fielding, who landed rights at will and forced referee Steve Gray to jump in at 1:34 of the third, ad he unloaded with Laine covering up on the ropes.
Fielding had only boxed four rounds, split over two fights since he lost to Canelo Alvarez at Madison Square Garden in 2018. That is one of only two defeats on his record, the other being to Callum Smith.
Blane Hyland climbed off the floor to claim a narrow six-round decision over Stephen Jackson at bantamweight. Hyland had the edge early on but was dropped by a hard right at the end of the fourth round. Jackson did well in the final round, but referee John Latham gave Hyland the edge by 57-56 to move to 6-1 as a pro.
Irish super-featherweight Steven Cairns took only 91 seconds to stop Jose Hernandez, a Spain-based Nicaraguan. A big right hand hurt Hernandez and Cairns landed two more rights to send him to the floor. Hernandez beat the count at nine, but referee Gray waved it off. It was scheduled for four rounds.
A series of significant rights led referee Latham to jump in. Joe McGrail took the same time as he stopped Mohammed Al Warith in a super-bantamweight four-rounder. McGrail is now 3-0.
Bantamweight Will Cawley never really had to step out of first gear as he moved to 2-0 over Lithuania’s Marius Vysniauskas, referee Latham scoring it 40-36.
Super-featherweight Harry Kinsella made a successful professional debut as he took a 40-36 decision on referee Gray’s card to beat Cristian Narvaez of Nicaragua.

NOBODY CAN BEAT ME RIGHT NOW; I M IN MY PRIME
NOBODY CAN BEAT ME RIGHT NOW; I M IN MY PRIME
Canelo Alvarez is brimming with otherworldly confidence ahead of his
most challenging assignment.
Alvarez has amassed titles in four divisions and has been tearing through the competition lately. Last year, he enhanced his profile by ultimately unifying the 168-pound division with an 11th-round knockout of Caleb Plant.
The Mexican superstar is scheduled to face WBA Russian light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol in a 175-pound match on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Suppose Alvarez's recent accomplishments have contributed to the public perception that he seems unbeatable at this stage in his career. In that case, it is an opinion that the fighter himself shares.
“It’s boxing, but nobody can beat me right now,” Alvarez said on the Boxing with Chris Mannix podcast. “I feel in my prime.
"And no disrespect to other fighters. There’s some great fighters. But I feel in my prime. I feel strong. I feel in my best.”
Alvarez, who won his first title at the 154-pound limit, is essentially an interloper in the 175-pound division, where the opponents theoretically boast a natural size and power advantage. Still, Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) has experience taking on more prominent fighters, as evidenced by his stoppage of Sergey Kovalev in a WBO light heavyweight title bout in 2019. (Alvarez vacated the title to focus on unifying the 168-pound division). In Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs), Alvarez will face a fighter known for his sharp jab, speed, and all-around caginess.
Alvarez credited Eddy Reynoso, his trainer, and manager, for keeping him on his toes in the gym and developing new wrinkles in his repertoire.
“We’re always trying to do something [new] in the gym,” Alvarez said. “We try not to do the same mistakes I do in my last fight. So we’re always working on something.”
Alvarez says he believes he is more motivated today than a decade earlier in his career.
"I don't come to the gym like, 'Oh, I have to train because I have a big fight,'" Alvarez said. "This is part of my life. These kinds of fights, these kinds of challenges, make me motivate myself. These kinds of fights, big fights like this, make me feel motivated.
"Maybe [I have] more [motivation than ten years ago]," Alvarez continued. "Even more…I want to still be on this level to be the best fighter, so maybe I'm more motivated."

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO DALLAS AS THE MAVERICKS ADVANCE TO THE SECOND ROUND?
What does it mean to Dallas as the Mavericks advance to the second round?
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
The Dallas Mavericks barely won Game 6 against the Utah Jazz. Luckily, they escaped the commendable inbound play of the Jazz as Bojan Bogdanovic missed a wide-open potential game-winning trey.
They've sent Utah home, but it means more than that because this is the first playoff series win for Dallas since 2011. That was when the great Dirk Nowitzki gave them an NBA championship over the Miami Heat big three.
Luka Doncic led the squad in Game 6 with almost a triple-double, 24 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.
Now that they are through to the West semis, expectations for the Mavericks have gone higher. While it is still a long shot, can they do what the 2011 Dallas squad did?
Well, of course, we'll find out.

CHANCES FOR THE FRANCIS NGANNOU TYSON FURY CROSSOVER BOUT GETTING BIGGER
Chances for the Ngannou-Fury crossover bout getting bigger
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
The interest is mutual, and it might only take a few more steps before they sign it.
UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou likes his chances to face the WBC heavyweight king next.
It was the Gypsy King who proposed the fight after he defeated Dillian Whyte in another exceptional fight.
In an interview with the MMA Hour podcast, Ngannou stressed that both sides want the fight to happen, and they respect each other.
'Probably next year it will happen. I think it's going to happen, it's just a matter of our promotions, but we will sort this out at some point," he added.
Likewise, Fury responded about the possible fight.
"This is going to be one extraordinary fight. It'll be something never before seen in the history of our sport," he said in an ESPN interview.
"We're not talking two guys around 140lb. I'm 270lb. He's 270lb. It's going to be an explosive fight when it happens."
"I'm the heavyweight boxing champion, he's the UFC heavyweight champion, he's in great shape, look at the muscles on him."

GOLDEN STATE WARRIOR WINS VS DENVER NUGGETS @ GAME 5
Green to Jokic: Thank you for making me better.
BY PONCIANO "JOHN" MELO
It was a physical series, and the emotions were high, but sportsmanship lives at the end of the day.
Draymond Green sang high praises to his counterpart, the reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic, for his greatness in their five-game series.
"I told him to thank you for making me better," Green said after they eliminated the Denver Nuggets in Game 5.
"It's an honor and a pleasure to play someone so skilled. Usually, when you have talented and skilled guys, they're soft. And he's far, far from soft. He's an incredible player."
Jokic was exceptional despite having foul trouble in their final game. He kept the Nuggets in step, but Stephen Curry cooked them at the end.
With the Golden State Warriors moving on to the next round, they now set their eyes on the Minnesota Timberwolves-Memphis Grizzlies series as they prepare their game plan for whoever will advance on the two squads.
