A brutal uppercut delivered by Alexander Povetkin ended Dillian Whyte in the fifth round of Matchroom Boxing’s main event.

Losing to the Russian, Whyte also lost his right as the WBC world heavyweight mandatory contender.

Whyte, who was vocal on his dream of becoming the world champion had hit a setback for his boxing career.

Along with it is his plan to fight Athony Joshua on what he called ‘Battle of Britain.’

However, he can regain himself on the possible rematch.

Promoter Eddie Hearn told reporters that Whyte was planning to use his rematch clause and the fight could be on December.

“There is a rematch clause. The first thing Dillian said to me was, ‘get me that rematch, get me that rematch,” said Hearn.

But WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury earlier said that he will fight in December against anybody. Hence, Povetkin, who has now own the right as the mandatory challenger to choose either a rematch with Whyte or a faceoff against the unbeaten Fury.
